JOURNALISM TRUST INITIATIVE

"An innovative media self-regulatory initiative designed to combat disinformation online – called the Journalism Trust Initiative (JTI) – launched by Reporters Without Borders (RSF), and its partners Agence France Presse (AFP), the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and the Global Editors Network (GEN).

JTI is designed to promote journalism by adherence to an agreed set of trust and transparency standards to be developed and implemented. This will happen by means of the so-called Workshop Agreement of the European Centre of Standardization (CEN), which was open on 3 April 2018 for participation of interested stakeholders, for example media outlets, professional associations and unions, self-regulatory entities like press councils and regulatory bodies, as well as digital platforms, advertisers and consumer interest representatives."

NEWS CO/LAB

"The News Co/Lab discovers, develops, and distributes innovative tools and techniques aimed at helping people understand how news works in the digital age.

In a world saturated with data, where misinformation commands the stage alongside truthful and useful information, we focus primarily on the “demand side”  —  helping people better find, understand, act upon, and create credible news and information, and to share it with integrity.

The News Co/Lab experiments with new ways of advancing news awareness. We want to collaborate with teachers, journalists, librarians, technologists, civic leaders, among others  —  all who share our goals and want to work on this. We support the good work that others are already doing, and help them do more of it."

INTERNATIONAL STANDARD CONTENT CODE

"Currently, the media industry is still relying on identifiers that were designed for physical products such as printed books and magazines. However, traditional identifiers (like ISBN, ISSN or ISRC) fall short of the requirements for digital trade – and for individual journalistic articles they are missing altogether.

Freely accessible standard identifiers, which are specifically designed for digital content, are a fundamental prerequisite for transactions and sales activities in a digital and increasingly heterogeneous media environment.

With better identifiers for digital content, it will become more efficient to perform sales or other transactions and to report and account revenues or license fees back to the rights holders.

The Content Blockchain Project will design an open identifier for digital content and develop tools to create and register instances of that identifier on blockchain systems. Our working name is ISCC – International Standard Content Code."

VERIFICADO2018

"Verificado2018 — a collaborative reporting effort that sees journalists from across Mexico working together to fact-check, verify, and debunk claims and content for historic elections on July 1, 2018.

With support from Google News Lab and Facebook, #Verificado2018 builds on previous collaborative reporting initiatives such as Electionland (USA) and CrossCheck (France). #Verificado2018 combines the two approaches — with journalists fact checking and debunking content and claims in the run up to the elections, and a large scale election day effort to cover the electoral process in real-time."
